About SOLE

Sole food means different things to different people.

For most of us it’s sensibly eating freshly harvested nutritious food. Usually that comes from local sources.

For some it’s also organic and biodynamic, which is pretty much about how its grown and that it’s chemical free.

Others choose the ethical path, which involves responsible farming and butchering. Ethical concerns extend to fair and humane treatment of livestock and better management of land and resources. It can also refer to fair trade practices and the support of communities over potential exploitation of labourers.

Some people refer to themselves as Locavores which means that they only eat food produced within a certain radius of their home town. For them their diet is determined by availability of what is in season.

Others consider that buying much of their fresh produce from local farmers is a way of connecting the city directly with the country. With this in mind they are helping producers avoid the stressful reliance on supplying supermarket chains and the potential business pitfalls of corporate negotiation.

And some are trying to preserve traditions so that certain foods, plants and animals don’t die out. Most would also agree that Sustainable farming will put less pressure on the earth and allow us to continue producing through crop rotation and avoiding genetic modification of produce which can impact on native plants, insects and animals, upsetting the ecological balance.

There are as many reasons for choosing to eat healthy as there are people, but if you’re interested in some of the aspects of this we are writing up the details gradually. Each topic will appear on their own pages.

Bear with us - as we are doing this in our free time it may take a little time to post all the details on the site. Please feel free to suggest any topics in the comment section that you’d like to read about.
